Honesty and being your true self, even when people are around, is one of the hardest things I’m learning right now. I wanted to share why it’s so important — if used properly, this newsletter can encourage you to change your life and mindset.

Honesty

Honesty starts with yourself, then with the world.

With Yourself

When you’re not being honest with yourself, you can’t grow.

You tell yourself things like:

• “It’s not urgent.”

• “I’ll do it tomorrow.”

• “I’m not bad; people just don’t know what good writing is.”

You lie to yourself without even realizing it, without thinking clearly.

The saddest part? Some people do this for a lifetime.

But as we know, all growth starts with honesty — with yourself.

If your writing doesn’t get views — get better and engage more with people.

If you’re overweight — admit it, and fix it: eat clean, move your body.

If you’re struggling in relationships — you might need to leave, and you’ll probably feel better once you do.

Just admit it to yourself.

If you walk through this painful journey called life with your eyes closed, you will get hurt even more.

If you open your eyes, it will still be painful, but at least you’ll see where you’re going and what you’re fighting against.

With Others

I consider this the harder path — because being vulnerable, personal, and honest is scary.

(And by honesty, I don’t mean being mean, by the way.)

I really struggle with this. I’m so scared, but day by day, it’s getting better. I’m learning, I’m being more honest with people, and that has helped me be more honest with myself.

I keep reminding myself:

• How can I connect with people if I can’t be honest and share my true opinions?

• How can I help people if I’m not honest?

• How can I truly be myself?

And if you don’t want to be yourself, who else do you want to be?

Everyone else is already taken.
