You are not perfectionist you are just afraid to look dump

As with most people starting something, you’ll face the fear of looking dumb. Most call it perfectionism, and while that’s not entirely wrong, to be more specific, you’re afraid of looking dumb because when your post, newsletter, or business fails that would prove everyone right—all those voices in your head telling you, “We told you so.”

So, you end up doing nothing.

The difference between perfectionism and being afraid of looking stupid or being bad at first:

They might seem the same, but they’re opposites.

Both are fears, but one comes from not being perfect, and the other comes from being too bad.

And then you see those posts like, “Nothing is perfect—post it anyway.”

You say to yourself:

“Yeah, I know my posts won’t be perfect and never will be, but I’m just afraid they’re too bad.”

Or at least, I used to be like that.

It may not seem like it, but I had a real problem with this—not just posting posts, but starting anything. So, as always, I kept procrastinating, and in the end, I did nothing at all.

Then, you feel like crap and think it’s not meant for you. But the truth is, if you overcome it, the few posts, newsletters, or businesses really do get better. Maybe not exactly as you dreamed, but you get better.

Most of the time, though, you don’t even realize how far you’ve come because you’re only focused on the next step and the journey ahead.

Sometimes, it’s good to look back for a moment and see how far you’ve come.

Solution : Don’t overthink it.

Start it. Write the post or newsletter and hit “post” or “send” as quickly as possible.

Then breathe. Nobody died, and you’re still alive.

Boom, you did it. It takes so little to overcome it.

You may think it’s harder, but the moment you try to start or send that post, 100 excuses will pop into your head. Don’t listen. Just do it.
