You Need Healthy Obsession to Win

One pattern I’ve noticed with successful people is that they get obsessed too easily.

That’s not a problem—in fact, I would actually call it a superpower. But one issue with obsession is that it can make your life a lot harder than it needs to be. When you’re at school or work, it can complicate things.

That’s why I always lean towards something called healthy obsession. It’s a more balanced form of obsession, but it’s still obsession.

We all know that feeling when you can’t stop thinking about something. In my case, it’s about how to grow on X, X in general, and writing. It’s the kind of thing that gets you out of bed in the morning and keeps you awake at night. There’s never a problem with motivation because it’s all you can think about and all you want to talk about.

This actually happened to me this morning. I was listening to the Diary of a CEO podcast with Mr. Beast, and he said something along these lines:

“I think it’s my superpower that I can absolutely obsess over things…”

It stucked because not long ago, I saw a clip from The Jon Rogan Podcast with Magnus Carlsen (the best chess player in the world), and he also mentioned obsession:

“That’s why I win. I was the best because I was obsessed. Even now, I’m analyzing a game in my head…”

These qoutes sparked questions and ideas in my head, like:

Do you need obsession to win?

Can you have multiple interests and still be obsessed?

Does something like healthy obsession even exist?

These questions haunted me all day. I was at school then swim practice, thinking about how I’d write this newsletter, and I couldn’t wait to get home.

But how do you actually become obsessed in a healthy way?

First, it’s important to note that there’s a very thin line between obsession and healthy obsession.

Also, obsession is created—it’s not magically given to you. So

How to Be Healthily Obsessed:

Create an obsession (topic for tomorrow’s newsletter)

Keep at it for as long as you can

Don’t neglect other priorities in your life

It may sound stupidly simple, but most solutions in life are—we just like to overcomplicate things.

You can be healthy obsessed with something you can be really unhealthy obsessed then get to healthy obsession all I know you need at least a little bit of it to win.

If you have any questions or feedback about this newsletter, my DMs are always open. I’d love to talk about it more and get some new perspectives as always. Please join the newsletter if you liked it.
